ABSTRACT We have investigated the edge shift of written domain in magnetic field modulation recording for magneto -optical disk. The edge shift between the timing for the recording and reproducing signal edges is inevitable. We have proposed an edge shift compensation methodfor the purpose of applying the magnetic field modulation method to embedded clock system. 1. INTRODUCTION The magnetic field modulation method is one of the most promising types of overwriting on the magneto - optical disk.' By using a floating magnetic head, high speed overwriting was achieved at recording frequencies over 10MHz.2 In this method, a focused laser beamcontinuously irradiates an information track through the disk substrate. The magnetic field applied by a magnetic head is modulated according to the information to be recorded. The magnetization of the recording layer is reversed in the direction of the magnetic field.
