Effect of Imidazole 2-Hydroxybenzoate on Erythrocyte Charge: A Possible Explanation of its Hypoalbuminuric Action

1989
Recently in insulin-dependent diabetic (IDD) patients with incipient nephropathy we observed that a new non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), Imidazole 2-hydroxybenzoate (ITF-182). induced a reduction of the urinary albumin excretion rate (1). Since this drug did not determine any significant variation of blood pressure and of glomerular filtration rate, we suggested the hypothesis that this drug exerted its hypoalbuminuric effect modifying the glomerular charge permeaselectivity similarly to other NSAIDs (2), instead of acting on intrarenal hemodynamic.
