A Myocardial infarction in the africans diabetics : Epidemiologic, clinical and paraclinic characteristics at the Cardiology Institute of Abidjan

2018
Aims: To determine the particularities of the myocardial infarction in diabetics in Abidjan. Materials and methods: From January 2010 to April 2014, we made a retrospective study of a cohort including patients hospitalized for the myocardial infarctions at the de Cardiology Institute of Abidjan between January 2010 and April 2013. Those patients were divided into two groups: the diabetics and the non diabetics. We analyzed the epidemiological, clinical, paraclinic and evolution characteristics. Results: The diabetes prevalence was 31% in the myocardial infarction. The diabetics were older than the non diabetics and they were more often women (P<0.01). The cardiovascular risk factors mostly found with the diabetics were dyslipidemia (p=0.04) obesity (p=0.04), metabolic syndrome (p < 0.01), physical inactivity, (p=0.02). Smoking was significantly less found with the diabetics (p <0.01). Thorax pain was less frequent with the diabetics (p=0.01). The circumferential location of the myocardial infarction was found (p=0.01) with the diabetics. The dysfunction of the left ventricular systole was more frequent with diabetics (p <0.01). The interventricular anterior artery was the coronary responsible found more with diabetics than non diabetics, without significant difference. The right coronary attack was mostly less found with diabetics (p=0.03). The hospitable mortality in diabetics was higher than non-diabetics. Conclusion: The myocardial infarction is a serious affection especially with the diabetics.
