Involving families in service redesign

Abstract Children, young people and families have a right to be involved in any redesign of health services. This involvement is fundamental to providing the right services, at the right time and in the right place. Services that are co-produced with children, young people and families are more likely to be well utilised, result in better outcomes and provide better value for money. This article describes the need for involvement, various levels of involvement, practical considerations in involving children, young people and families and provides examples of involvement in commissioning, designing and developing health services for children and young people.
