I applaud the efforts of Anthony and Faith Harckham on behalf of the Bolivian villagers, but I question their engineering choices. Why did they build a new lighting system and not use a commercial product? Searching the Internet led me to a number of solar-powered LED lamps, flashlights, and lanterns. I’m sure favorable pricing could be arranged with a manufacturer, especially for such a good cause and any resultant publicity. I am also sure that many more options are now available than when the Harckhams first began. Technological solutions for the Third World are an amazing challenge.
