The Use of Minimally Invasive RPLND in the Treatment of Para-Testicular Rhabdomyosarcoma in the Pediatric Population
2020
Para-testicular rhabdomyosarcoma represents a significant portion of malignant pediatric scrotal tumors. Treatment of this tumor requires a multi-disciplinary approach, however surgery, including a retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, remains an important diagnostic and therapeutic tool in the treatment of this disease. Traditional approaches have been via open surgery, however with the advent of the robotic platform, minimally invasive retroperitoneal lymph node dissection with sound oncologic principles is now possible. Advantages of the robotic approach include decreased morbidity and enhanced recovery compared to the open approach. In this chapter, we describe the technique for a minimally invasive robotic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection.
