Conclusions: According to our findings, tobacco consumption seems to have at least some impact on the aggravation of inflammatory activity, while there was no influence on fibrosis progression. However, since nicotine abuse has been demonstrated to be a risk factor for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma, patients with HCV should be advised not to smoke.
