Structural investigation of solid state host/guest complexes of native cyclodextrins with monoterpenes and their simple derivatives

2018
Abstract Terpenes and their derivatives terpenoids are constituents of essential oils, with possible applications in pharmacy, which, unfortunately, is limited due to their high volatility. Complexation with native cyclodextrins (α−, β− and γ−CDs) may help to overcome this unwanted feature, as well as improve their solubility in water and bioavailability. Crystalline complexes of CDs are of high interest in view of their potential application in various industries. In this article solid state interactions between native CDs and monoterpenes/monoterpenoids solved by x-ray crystallography available through Cambridge Crystallographic Database (CSD) are summarized. The data obtained for solid state complexes is additionally compared with the information gathered for solution.
