Tyre model for vehicle simulation: overview and real time solution for critical situations

2001
After highlighting the difficulties linked to the characterisation of tyre behaviour, this paper gives an overview of existing tyre models. It presents an alternative to today's most commonly used model-Pacejka's model (1997)-so as to meet the conditions imposed by critical situations (under and oversteering). The use of a sophisticated tyre model inevitably requires a test bench. Based on an estimator of the strain and stress for partial wrench at the wheel-ground contact patch, (specially developed in the laboratory) an original method has been perfected for the building of a tyre model from real test. This model is used for the generation of a multidimensional description table meant for real time applications of active safety.
