Accounting for the Impact of Blade Icing on Wind Energy Production According to Weather Station Data

2020
The article deals with the problems of the operation of wind turbines in a cold climate. The icing of the wind turbines blades significantly reduces power generation. An approach to estimate the duration and degree of wind turbine icing is proposed. It is based on the analysis of the combination of weather conditions under which the icing process begins. As the initial data, statistically unprocessed long-term open access measurements of ground weather stations are used. The approach is implemented in the Wind-MCA program, which allows setting wind turbines power curves corresponding to three degrees of icing. For certain regions of northeastern Russia an analysis of the duration of icing periods and an assessment of the reduction in electricity generation using the Wind-MCA program were carried out.
