Serological study of Newcastle Disease Virus and Infectious Bronchitis Virus in wild and pet birds in West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

2005
This study was conducted to determine the serological status of Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) and Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) antibodies in wild and pet birds found in West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia and to compare the HI test and ELISA in detecting NDV antibodies. A total of 198 sera comprised of wild and pet birds were sampled randomly. The sera assayed for NDV were subjected to ELISA and HI tests, and those sera assayed for IB antibodies were subjected to ELISA test only. There was a low seroprevalence for NDV (1.5% with ELISA and 12.6% with HI test) and IBV (0.5% with ELISA) antibodies in wild and pet birds. There was a weak correlation ( rho =0.326) and poor agreement ( kappa =0.192) between HI test and ELISA in detecting NDV antibodies in the wild and pet birds.
