Engaging Families Through the Letter Writing Technique

Traditional methods for engaging multiagency-involved clients often result in these families becoming alienated from therapy because it is difficult for family and therapist to create a sense of common ground. This article will demonstrate how letter writing can create a sense of mutuality with such families. We will discuss a case illustrating the utilization of letters to engage the family in treatment and define the implications for other types of work.
