Management training modules for dais (TBAs).

1988
The National Institute of Health of India with government approval has developed management training modules for health workers at district and community levels. This report focuses on training modules for the Dais. The Dais have played an important part in maternal and child health care especially in the villages where services are most needed. Management problems were identified from interviews and observation. The purpose of these modules is to improve the management skills and knowledge of health workers so they can provide better services in primary health care. Each module contains materials on objectives for training contents outline suggested teaching methods and aids and step by step instructions on teaching activities. A module may be used separately or in combination with other modules. The 7 modules include management training the role of Dai working together referring persons from the village taking care of supplies recording activities and summary of training. The total training time for all is about 10 hours and all modules include more time for developing skills and less for theory. Teaching should be done by giving examples and letting the Dais practice skills by doing. The training will be successful if the trainer spends more time in active exercises and lets the Dais discuss their experiences. There are 2 types of evaluation. The 1st is when trainers fill out a questionnaire at the end of each module collect information to revise the modules and improve future training. The 2nd of evaluation is a measure of what the Dais have learned during the course and includes a pretest and follow-up questions during the course.
