Actitud e interés hacia la matemática: un estudio con participantes de la olimpiada juvenil de matemática

En el presente articulo se estudia la actitud e interes hacia la matematica presentado por un grupo de estudiantes de las instituciones educativas: L.B. “Rosario Almarza”, Liceo “Jose Maria Vargas”, L.B “Sabana Libre”, Colegio “Monsenor Leon Rojas” y “L.B Julio Sanchez Vivas”, pertenecientes a los municipios: Trujillo, Rafael Rangel, Valera, Carvajal y Candelaria, del estado Trujillo, respectivamente. El proposito de esta investigacion fue obtener una estimacion del grado de interes mostrado por los estudiantes que participan voluntariamente en la olimpiada juvenil de matematica. Asi como identificar las variables mas significativas que inciden sobre el agrado o rechazo hacia la misma. Teniendo presente que las actitudes junto a los escenarios academicos y ambientales donde se desarrollan los estudiantes forman parte del conocimiento subjetivo, los mismos son determinantes cuando se trata de describir, comprender y/o explicar el exito o el fracaso en su formacion academica y competitiva, por lo que deben ser analizados desde una optica holistica. El estudio se realizo tomando una muestra intencional de cincuenta estudiantes de las cinco instituciones senaladas, las cuales participaron con una cantidad significativa de estudiantes en todos los niveles del sistema de educacion media general, en una jornada de entrenamiento previa a la olimpiada juvenil de matematica. Los datos fueron recogidos mediante un instrumento que mide la actitud e interes hacia la disciplina, considerando una escala ordinal de cinco grados que varia desde muy alto (5) hasta muy bajo (1). Los resultados mas significativos concordantes al proposito de la investigacion fueron los siguientes: una media de 4,39 sobre un puntaje maximo de 5 en la variable actitud e interes hacia la matematica. Por otro lado, se obtuvo una ligera neutralidad de 3,36 en cuanto al estimulo y apoyo brindado por el entorno familiar hacia la actitud e interes por la matematica. Troubleshooting and group teaching principles for physical skills Abstract This article describes the attitude toward mathematics and interest exhibited by a group of students of educational institutions L.B. “Rosario Almarza", Liceo “Jose Maria Vargas", L.B “Sabana Free", Monsignor “College Red Lion" and L.B. “Julio Sanchez Vivas" in the municipalities Trujillo, Valera, Carvajal and Candelaria, Trujillo state. The purpose of this research is to provide an estimate of the level of interest shown by students who voluntarily participate in the mathematics juvenile Olympics. And to identify the most significant variables that affect the liking or rejection of mathematics. Bearing in mind that attitudes are part of the subjective knowledge of the students, which in turn depend on the context where they develop, learn and are crucial when it comes to describe, understand or explain the success or failure in academic or competitive participation. The study was made on a purposive sample of fifty students from the five institutions listed, which involved a significant amount of students at all levels of the general secondary education system in a training day prior to the mathematics juvenile Olympics. Data were collected using an instrument that measures the attitude and interest in mathematics, considering a five-grade ordinal scale ranging from very high (5) to very low (1). The results show an average of 4.39 on a maximum score of 5, the variable attitude and interest in mathematics. On the other hand, we obtained slight 3.36 neutrality regarding the encouragement and support provided by the family to the attitude and interest in mathematics.
