The invention discloses a method for transmitting streaming media data on a mobile terminal. The method includes: acquiring multimedia data; encoding the multimedia data; packaging the encoded multimedia data into streaming media slice files; indexing the streaming media slice files to generate an index file; generating a streaming media-on-demand page according to the index file and the streaming media slice files; adding the index file, the streaming media files and the streaming media-on-demand page to pre-started APACHE HTTP service. The streaming media slice files are transmitted to other target mobile terminals in real time according to the sequence of the index and according to the requests from the other target mobile terminals. The invention further discloses a mobile terminal. The method allows the mobile terminal to serve as a server in streaming media transmission to transmit the streaming media to other target mobile terminals.
