Response of a Shear Frame under Seismic Excitation

The structural response of a shear frame of a fixed geometry under various types of seismic excitation was evaluated. The modal frequencies of the shear frame were calculated using ANSYS and MATLAB software and were compared with the actual shake table testing of the same structure. The ground motion data of the 1940 El Centro earthquake was used to evaluate the response of the shear frame using the response spectrum and transient analysis methods. The deformation values of the shear frame at each floor have been compared using both the methods. The advantages and disadvantages of the procedures have also been discussed.
