The role of neurosurgery in the management of posterior fossa stroke.

: With appropriate treatment, most patients with a posterior fossa stroke make a good recovery. The majority of patients do not require surgery. A strategy based upon clear guidelines for early surgical treatment can reduce potentially avoidable mortality and morbidity without exposing other patients to the risk of operative complications from unnecessary intervention.
