Gender relations analysis : a guide for trainers

1995
As the first in a series of documents developed to help Save the Children engender its programs and organizational structure this manual links current theory about gender relations with user-friendly analytical tools to create a framework for gender relations analysis for all development practitioners. The manual contains a summary of the evolution of key concepts in gender analysis as well as a curriculum for a five-day training course which is based on the following key components of gender relations analysis: 1) linkages between gender and sustainable development; 2) the relationship between access and gender power relations; 3) the interconnection among gender scale and sustainability; 4) extension of the scope of the training beyond the "project" context; and 5) an emphasis on training teams. After a general introduction the first section of the manual looks at key concepts related to gender that must be understood by the trainer. Section 2 contains the five-day adaptable training curriculum which includes 33 sessions and associated handouts. The final section of the manual provides an additional perspective for trainers who intend to train other trainers in gender analysis. Topics covered include equal education a gender approach to family planning gender analysis gender versus sex team work leadership communication and discrimination.
