An Animal Model of Anaphylactic Peptic Ulceration — A New Approach to Ulcer Disease in Humans?

1981
Direct immunofluorescence, using an anti-epsilon chain antiserum, of the gastric mucosa of patients with varioliform gastritis or peptic ulceration has revealed increased numbers of IgE plasma cells and activated mast cells. These studies therefore provide evidence that type 1 hypersensitivity could play an important role in the pathogenesis of these diseases, though proof of this would be difficult to obtain from human studies.
