The paper is dedicated to stability loss in the cylinder shells having variable thickness, and the laws of thickness variation along the shell axis. A comparison is made of the axial shell forces characterized for constant or variable thickness under similar weight and dimension of shells. The study showed advantages of shells with variable thickness resulting from their weight. We proposed a new method for defining optimal standards of thicskness variation. The authors defined the law of thickness variation, which improves efficiency of shells under the axial compression.
