Efecto de la ingestión de fluoruro de sodio en la concentración de malondialdehído y la actividad de enzimas antioxidantes en el eritrocito de rata

2009
Objective: To determine the effects on malondialdehyde levels in erythrocyte membranes and the activity of antioxidant enzymes from rats treated with sodium fluoride. Material and methods: Male Wistar rats were divided in the following study groups: 1) controls; 2) experimental animals treated with NaF to 50 ppm. They were sacrificed every week until for eight weeks. Erythrocytes were isolated and malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase and catalase were determined. Results: Intake of NaF produces an increase in malondialdehyde only at eight weeks of treatment. Antioxidant enzymes were altered at four weeks of treatment. Conclusions: Intake of NaF produces alterations in the erythrocyte of male rats as an indicative of oxidative stress.
