Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPN) and pneumococcal vaccination in our setting

2015
Introduction: To determine the microbiological characteristics and vaccination data of patients diagnosed with IPD Material and Methods: Retrospective descriptive study.Patients over 18 years old admitted to our hospital due to IPD from 01/2007-12/2014.Recruitment based on germ isolations(blood/body fluids).Data compiled for demographic variables, comorbidities, microbiology and vaccination.Analysis:SPSS18.0 Results: 176patients:98men,78women.Mean age:65.44. 32serotypes(8serotypes responsible for more than 1/2 of the cases)62 patients(35.2%)had been vaccinated with 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine(23V):4.6% 1year before the pathological process,33.8% between 1-5 years before,61.50% more than 5 years before.85.2% of patients who had received 23V were over the age of 65( p =0.000).6.7% of patients younger than 65(<65)with at least one comorbidity had been vaccinated In 62.1% of the vaccinated patients the isolated serotype was included in the 23V. Conclusions: Most frequently isolated serotypes are included in 23V and also in 13-valent conjugate vaccine. Low vaccination coverage:2/3 of patients had not been vaccinated. The immunization % is even lower in patients
