New investigations of near UV and visible photon emission resulting from 60-keV C4+ –Li collisions
1995
A spectroscopic analysis of light emitted in the 2000-7000 A wavelength range by C3+ and C2+ ions following 60 keV C4+–Li collisions is performed. Transitions with Δn = 1, 2 and 3 in C IV from n = 5 to 9 states produced by single electron capture are identified using atomic energy level data. Transitions resulting from single electron capture by metastable C4 + 1s2s(3S) ions are identified using ab initio energy level calculations. A few lines in C III were also observed and identified.
