Influence of expandable graphite, aluminium hydroxide and lignin on mechanical properties of polyurethane foam

2021
In this study, the effect of expendable graphite (EG), aluminium hydroxide (ATH) and lignin on the mechanical properties of polyurethane composite was examined. Oil palm-based polyurethane with a proportion of 1:1.1 is used to set up Polyurethane foam and compression test is done for mechanical properties. The results indicate that the addition of expendable graphite, aluminium hydroxide and lignin into polyurethane had upgraded the strength of the compression strength and compression modulus compared to polyurethane composite in the absence of additif. The existing of expendable graphite in the polyurethane cell wall which support to develop the mechanical properties is shown in SEM micrograph.
