Branchioglossum pygmaeum sp. nov. and new records of other delesseriaceous algae (Rhodophyta) from Natal, South Africa

Abstract Branchioglossum pygmaeum sp. nov. (Delesseriaceae, Rhodophyta) is described from South Africa. In addition, the following species of Delesseriaceae are described and their ranges extended to Natal, South Africa: Cottoniella arnarniensis Itono, the first record of this species outside the western Pacific, and the first time that the genus Cottoniella has been found in South Africa; Hypoglossurn barbatum Okamura, not previously reported outside Japan; Apoglossum gregarium (Dawson) Wynne, not previously known to occur in the Indian Ocean; and Hypoglossum anomalum Wynne et Ballantine, the first report of this species from South Africa.
