Magnetic properties of a microinhomogeneous Mn0.55Fe0.45Pd alloy

2002
The magnetic properties and metallography study of the Mn 0.55 Fe 0.45 Pd alloy shows that ternary alloys Mn x Fe 1-x Pd are to a large extent magnetically inhomogeneous. The Mn x Fe 1-x Pd system in the medium concentration range in the vicinity of x ∼ 0.5 consists of at least two magnetically ordered phases-F 1 and F 2 . At x = 0.45, the precipitates of the first phase (F 1 ) occupy approximately 70% of the sample volume and the ones of the second phase (F 2 ), not less than ∼27%. Ferromagnetic Curie temperature, T c , and spontaneous magnetization, σ s , at T ∼ 0 K are equal to ∼95 K and ∼10 EMU/g for phase F 1 and ∼570 K and ∼60 EMU/g for F 2 , respectively. It is suggested that these phases are solid solutions of the Mn x Fe 1-x Pd type, but they have significantly different values of x.
