Atividade terapêutica de Himatanthus bracteatus (A.DC.): Woodson uma revisão integrativa

The Medicinal Plants have been used since the first civilizations in the search for healing or relief of diseases. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 80% of the population using these plants for therapeutic purposes. Its use is usually based on past knowledge between generations. Since Brazil is a country rich in floral diversity, we need research to proof of chemical constituents in plants used for medicinal purposes. The objective of this work was to gather, evaluate and synthesize the information that relates the binomial Himatanthus bracteatus - therapeutic activity. A bibliographical survey was done in the CAPES Periodicals portal with Boolean operators "AND" and "OR", and integrative review, therapy. Himatanthus bracteatus, herbal medicine, Apocynaceae and janaguba as keywords. The inclusion criteria were complete scientific articles, communications and case reports in Portuguese, English and Spanish, published between 2005-2015. Exclusion criteria: work not related to the binomial. The methodology used showed the absence of scientific papers on the topic discussed by selecting only one article, not being analyzed in its entirety by not contemplate the purpose of the search. Considering the therapeutic use certificate by the communities, it is important scientifically investigate whether this information is true thus preventing misuse and possible side effects.
