Boron nitride-epoxy inverse “nacre-like” nanocomposite coatings with superior anticorrosion performance

2021
Abstract Embedding 2D nanomaterials in polymer matrix is a fascinating strategy to construct anticorrosive coatings with superior barrier performance. However, this is extremely limited by the uncontrolled dispersion and arrangement of 2D nanomaterials in coating matrix. Here, we present a promising approach to prepare self-aligned boron nitride-epoxy composite coating, where the random distribution mode of boron nitride nanosheets is transformed into ordered dispersion and orientation through an electrophoretic deposition technique. Electrochemical results confirm that the impedance modulus of the resultant bioinspired composite coatings are 4 and 2 orders of magnitude than those of the blank and random dispersion coatings.
