With the case of a child’s death by child abuse in 2013, public attention has grown on child abuse cases and a variety of policies to protect child abuse were in operation with the enactment of the Special Act on Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes. However, the crime of child abuse is still concealed at home due to lack of parental understanding due to the precise concept of abuse and home discipline. Since children are physically and mentally incompetent, awareness and support for victims of child abuse should be preceded by appropriate care and attention. Prevention of child abuse should be pursued with constant interest. The number of death by child abuse in the past five years is counted as 13 in 2011, 10 in 2012, 22 in 2013, 17 in 2014 and 19 in 2015, respectively.[1] In the amendment of the Child Welfare Law, which came into force in September, 2015, the punishment against children is prohibited. Even though the discipline by the parental guardians is guaranteed by the Civil Law, child abuse is still committed due to the lack of perceptions on what is child abuse and what is parental discipline. What is more, it is hidden at home, which makes it harder to detect. Currently, civil and criminal sanctions against child abusers are strengthened and a variety of methods to encourage those are bound to notify the police and to protect the victims of child abuse. Regardless of these efforts, child abuse at home is still being committed, which leads children to abuse, neglect, violence and death. In this article, we started to build a system to protect children who may die from abuse by preventing crime of child abuse using Big Data in advance. First, we collected the data of children who have died for the past five years and analyzed the current status and cases of using Big Data in domestic and foreign countries in order to prevent death by crime of child abuse by using Big Data.
