A New Approach for Disruption Management in Airline Operations Control

2014
This book presented real data from a European Airline. Focusing on intelligent agents that take into account aircraft, crew and passengers, a new concept for disruption management is presented. A comprehensive description of current airline operations control centers including organization, tools, problems, methods and costs are also presented. Most of the research efforts dealt with airline scheduling. However, with the increasingly complex traffic at airports, the real challenge is how to react to unexpected events that may cause plan-disruptions that lead to flight delays. These disruptive events usually affect at least three different dimensions of the situation: the aircraft assigned to the flight, the crew assignment and often forgotten, the passengers’ journey and satisfaction.
