Challenge and Activities

1992
“Officially, I [Evelyn Cohen] retired as of last year. I was an office manager here in Allentown for three years, and then prior to that I was a medical secretary. I took a medical assistant’s course after I got out of New Jersey State Teaching College. I never wanted to be a teacher. I always wanted to be a doctor. My friend at the time said it’s no profession for a woman. I also talked to my mother and dad, and even my granddad said, ‘That’s right, it’s no profession for a woman. You just go to school and be a teacher.’ I wasn’t happy.
