Design and Implementation of a Microcontroller Based Forced Air Egg Incubator

2018
A microcontroller based low cost incubator has been designed using locally available material and resources to achieve a cost-effective design. The designed incubator combines the setter and hatcher together. The incubator consists of three main parts; casing which ensures hygienic and good thermal isolation, forced air to ensure same temperature all over the egg, automatic eggs tray turning system to enable proper formation of extra-embryonic membrane during incubation and microcontroller-based control unit to monitor and control the incubation parameters i.e. temperature, humidity, ventilation, egg turning. A twenty character by four lines liquid crystal display is added to visualize settings during configuration and the system status during operation. The incubator has been tested for hen and duck eggs. The success rate was 100% when the eggs were taken from the own breeder and the temperature & humidity were controlled carefully.
