A novel attenuator based on bending loss in SMF

2006
A novel bending single-mode fiber attenuator is presented. Organic glass plinths are sticked with several iron rods in order to impose bending on a typical single-mode fiber. Changing the space between the plinths, we can simultaneously determine bending magnitude and deduce the relationship between pure bend loss and bending-arc length. The theoretical model is in good agreement with the experimental results is stress-induced changes are considered. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
