Collaboration and structuration in the issue field: An analysis from power dynamic perspective

Although scholars have attempted to analyse the dynamics of organizational fields, so far little attention has been given to the ongoing situations where field structuration is affected by inter-organizational collaboration. This study contributes to this literature area by investigating different inter-organizational collaborations and their connection to structuration processes in the issue field using power dynamics lens. Overall, it proposes that collaboration- based structuration in the issue field results from two interrelated processes: (i) power relation and power exercise mutually shape different types of collaboration and their corresponding institutional effects, and (ii) the constellation of collaborations, in turn, defines actors’ field-level power relations and power exercise to diffuse and translate the institutional effects to proto-institutions, and to transplant them into newly emerged organizational form and field-level logics.
