Calculation of Structure-Borne Sound and Radiation from Automotive Silencers Using Sea and Fem

1999
Exhaust noise is due to two sources: the noise emitted from the tail pipe, and the noise radiated from the vibrating surfaces of silencers and pipes. If the silencer’s shell gets into resonance, the noise radiated from the surfaces can contribute significantly and even dominate the total noise emission of the exhaust system. Noise radiated from the silencer’s surfaces can be crucial in ISO 362 measurements, additionally, they impair the acoustical comfort inside the car.
