Formação de professores e a responsabilidade social da universidade

This article aims to reflect on the professional identity of the teacher, i.e. how to build the profession and training processes disseminated in academia. Emphasizes the crucial role of school is not the competitiveness, but the human competency, with emphasis on the ethical. This fact creates new challenges to the University in order to reframe the training practices with a view to articulating the social function of higher education to the demands of Basic Education. States that the teacher must be open to changes and innovations from resizing the training practices because, regardless of the level or Higher Basic Education what is sought is to effect a compromise with the quality of teaching so that it is linked to the social responsibility of the University. This statement relates directly to the training context developed in universities, because we know that teacher identity is formed even before adentar Higher Education, which may result from syntheses, distorted. In this context, the social function of higher education need to consider the historical path of academic and social interests and desires with regard to teacher. It is stated in this article, that the institution of higher education must be guided by a new social profile which suggests that teachers may have training to perform critical and interdisciplinary educational process, whether within or outside the classroom it, integrating the teaching research and management in the institutional contexts of learning in school.
