Effects of Ti addition on the formation of LPSO phase and yield asymmetry of Mg-Zn-Y-Mn alloy

Abstract The microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg 94 Zn 2.5 Y 2.5 Mn 1 (at%) with different Ti contents were investigated. The addition of 0.3 at% Ti yielded the best strength. However, Mg 93.5 Zn 2.5 Y 2.5 Mn 1 Ti 0.5 exhibited the lowest yield asymmetry. These changes were attributed to the combined effects of grain refinement, increased LPSO phase, and reduced axial ration (c/a).
