The objective of this work is to characterize cassava varieties cultivated by family farmers andto identify root rot tolerance and productivity from local knowledge. This study is qualitativeand data collection was carried out structured and semi-structured interviews with twelve familyfarmers living in the community Luiz Duarte, Castanhal Para, In the period from June 21to September 8, 2015. For the treatment of the data was used program Microsoft Office Excel2007.The survey resulted in thirteen varieties Manivao, Olho roxo, Olho verde, Pacaja amarela,Pacaja branca e Paulo Velho), Being that the varieties more tolerant to the attack of root rotare sao olho roxo, Paulo velho, guajuru e a macaxeira. However the good productivity characteristicsis key in the choice of variety, the more cultivated varieties are cearencinha, jurara,caravela e Paulo velho.
