As major energy users, the refinery and petrochemical industries are attractive candidates for cogeneration systems. This case study analysis of cogeneration opportunities in distillation shows that utilities and oil refineries can both benefit in some but not all cases. Site-specific analyses are critical to identifying those projects with the greatest potential.
