A method for processing a ridge of a cutting edge, wherein a maximum height of profile of the cutting edge two forming surfaces is less than or equal to 1 .mu.m and the ridge of the cutting edge along a boundary between the two intersecting surfaces is present, the method comprising: a step of the new forming a cutting edge at the ridge of the cutting edge by simultaneously irradiating the two surfaces and the ridge of the cutting edge with a gas cluster ion beam in such a way that the two surfaces are not perpendicular but obliquely irradiated with the gas cluster ion beam, and at least a part of the ridge of the cutting edge is irradiated perpendicularly with the gas cluster ion beam.
