Validated spectroscopic determination of clopidogrel and gemfibrozil using 2,4-dinitro phenyl hydrazine reagent.

A simple, extn. free spectrophotometric method for the quant. detn. of gemfibrozil and clopidogrel in bulk drugs and pharmaceutical formulations were developed. The method is based on the oxidn. of 2,4-dinitrophenyl hydrazine (2,4-DNP) and coupling of the oxidized product with drugs to give intensely colored chromogen. The condensed product of gemfibrozil and clopidogrel absorbs at I»max 421 nm and 412 nm. Both the drugs show linearity in the concn. range of 2-10 I¼g/mL and 10-30 I¼g/mL for gemfibrogel and clopidogrel resp. Linear relationships with good correlation coeffs. 0.961 and 0.9970 were found for gemfibrogel and clopidogrel resp. between absorbance and the corresponding concns. of the drug. The proposed method was applied successfully for the detn. of gemfibrogel and clopidogrel in pure bulk form and in tablets without interference from commonly encountered additives. [on SciFinder(R)]
