Nitridplattierter piston ring for internal combustion engines

The external circumferential sliding surface of the piston ring has an ion-plating deposition layer made of a mixture consisting of between 45 and 98 wt.% of a first chromium nitride of CrN type and the balance a second chromium nitride of Cr2N type. The mixture may include more than 0.5 and not more than 15.0 wt.% metallic chromium. The deposition layer may have a porosity of more than 0.5 and not more than 20.0%. Chromium is vapourised into nitrogen gas whilst being ionised.
