2609 – Uems proposed strategies to diminish the burden of mental disorder

2013
The “Union Europeenne de Medecins Specialistes” (UEMS), established in 1958, brings together general medical associations of 34 European countries. Delegates of national scientific and professional associations related to 39 different medical specialties work through specialty specific Sections and European Boards. The European principle of free movement from one country to another for all European citizens, patients and professionals, is the guiding compass. The UEMS tries to elaborate general common criteria applicable in all countries in order to get a high level of specialist training and delivery of care all over Europe. The first European Directive concerning medical doctors was largely largely inspired by the UEMS input. Three key issues inspire the activities of the UEMS: (1) postgraduate training, (2) continuous medical education and professional development, and (3) quality insurance in specialist practice. The presentation will illustrate how the Section and European Board of Psychiatry try to achieve these goals within the field of mental health. www.uems.net www.uemspsychiatry.org www.uems-cap.eu
