The measurement properties of the model of human occupation screening tool and implications for practice

2011
The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Model of Human Occupation Screening Tool (MOHOST) (version 1.0). The MOHOST is an occupation focused, client centred, theory driven assessment developed within a practice/academic partnership. In this study, nine occupational therapists from the UK and USA completed 171 MOHOST assessments of 163 clients with both physical and mental health disabilities. The occupational therapists report the clients ranged in their level of occupational participation. A many-faceted Rasch analysis was used to analyse the data. Results support the internal construct of occupational participation and confirm person response validity of the MOHOST. The MOHOST rating scale was shown to discriminate between people who had a range of difficulties with occupational participation. In addition, the results indicate the need for minor revisions to the physical spaces and physical resources items. The clinical utility of the MOHOST is outlined and implications for practice discussed.
