Significance of expressions of E-cad and CD_(44)V _ 6 in colorectal cancer

2005
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the correlation of the expressions of E-cad and CD 44V 6 with the clinicopathologic characteristics in colorectal cancer.METHODS:SP immunohistochemical staining was performed in 70 cases of colorectal cancer, 10 colorectal adenomas and 8 normal colorectal tissues.RESULTS: Preserved-type expression of E-cad protein in colorectal cancer was significantly lower than that in adenoma and normal tissues, P0.05, which had a negative correlation with Duke′s stages, P0.05, lymph node metastasis, P0.05, and vessel invasion,P0.01. However, the expression of CD 44V 6 in colorectal cancer was significantly higher than that in adenoma and normal tissues, P0.05, which had a significantly positive correlation with Duke′s stages, P0.05, lymph node metastasis, P0.01, and vessel invasion, P0.01. There was a significantly relationship between reduced-expression of E-cad and over expression of CD 44V 6 in colorectal cancers.CONCLUSIONS:Reduced-expression of E-cad and over-expression of CD 44V 6 may have a correlation with their Duke′s stages, lymph node metastasis and prognosis, in which E-cad and CD 44V 6 play an important role in tumor genesis and development of colorectal cancer.
