SOMATOTYPE CHARACTERISTICS OF CHRONIC METABOLIC DISEASES

Objective To investigate the somatotype characteristics in patients with chronic metabolic diseases.Me-thods By employing Heath-Carter method,the somatotype of 1 241 Han people(625 males and 616 females) working at a district government was measured and assessed,and a grouping comparison made in terms of health condition,gender and age.Results The somatotype in patients with hypertension was 6.3-4.5-1.4 in male and 8.0-3.9-1.3 in female;that in those with hyperlipidemia was 6.3-4.5-1.5 and 7.7-3.4-1.7;that with diabetes was 6.6-4.7-1.4 and 8.5-4.3-0.7.The differences of each factor between diseased-group and the control were significant(t=2.13-7.63,P0.05).Conclusion The somatotype of chronic-metabolic-disease patients have a higher value of intrinsic factor and in factor,which belongs to the meso-endomorphy category.
