If the host response to an infection becomes unbalanced and fails to return to normal homeostasis, it induces severe systemic disturbances and organ dysfunction, defining sepsis (1). Septic shock is the most severe presentation of this syndrome, characterized by circulatory, cellular, and metabolic abnormalities requiring hemodynamic support by vasopressors.
