Group project management: academic, government, and private sector approaches

Graduates of computing science curricula are expected to have both technical skills and the ability to work successfully in groups. In order to enhance their hiring capabilities, group projects have become ubiquitous in upper level courses. Unfortunately, students are often inexperienced with the skills required to successfully manage these team projects. The panel will introduce several approaches to group project management that have been used in an academic setting. Additionally, the panel will present challenges faced in the workplace and the project management skills that employers expect of potential hires.
