Pathogenesis and obstetric interventions of isolated oligohydramnios

2019
Reduction of amniotic fluid in late pregnancy is a common complication in clinic. Oligohydramnios without any evidence of anatomical, functional, or chromosomal abnormalities is termed isolated oligohydramnios, whose pathogenesis is not clear. It used to be believed that once oligohydramnios occurred, it would have a negative impact on pregnancy outcome. Therefore, obstetric intervention should be carried out in time to avoid the occurrence of adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, part of pregnant women are still in oligohydramnios after regular treatment. And some recent studies on oligohydramnios have shown that molecular biological changes play a very important role in the occurrence of such diseases. Besides, isolated oligohydramnios, unlike oligohydramnios with complications, do not have adverse effects on pregnancy outcomes. Therefore, further research is needed on whether obstetric intervention should be carried out in such pregnant women. This article reviews the pathogenesis of oligohydramnios in late pregnancy and the progress of obstetrical intervention. Key words: Isolated oligohydramnios; APQs; VEGF; Cx43; Obstetrical intervention
