Multi-resources data based environment assessment of the Jing-Hang Grand Canal in Beijing

2012
The Jing-Hang Grand Canal with a total length of more than 1 700 km,goes through 2 500 years in Chinese history. It plays an important role in the field of Canal navigation, military affairs, political affairs and culture.Until now,the part of the Canal from Jining to Hangzhou, which is more than 1 100 km,is still being used. However, the current situation of environment along the Canal is disgusting and the human environment is not thought important.Based on GIS and RS,SPOT5 RS image data of September in the year 2006 for Beijing city was interpreted and raster database of land use was made.According to the cultural heritage data obtained from field observation as well as the ecological characteristics along the Grand Canal,a new human environmental evaluation model was proposed systematically with cultural and heritage factors which was integrated with ecological environment evaluation model to create a synthetic environment assessment model to evaluate the environment along the Canal of Beijing(I_(CEA)=n∑i=1I_(EEA),i×W_i+n∑j=1I_(HEA,j)×W_j).Results showed that the general environment along the Canal was usual, and the area under middle level accounts for 34 % of the whole area.Correlating with natural condition, economic development and human environment, its spatial distribution shows that the synthesis value of environment decreased from the suburb to the urban area.So measures should be taken to improve both ecological environment and human environment along the canal in Beijing. The new model was believed useful for the ecological and human environment assessment along the Jing-Hang Grand Canal for its planning, protection, management and application for the world heritage as well as its sustainable development.
